Wellness is both a philosophy and a way of life at Longworth Retirement Residence. All activities and services are designed to assist residents in achieving and maintaining the highest quality of life: complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being. Wellness is attained through enhanced awareness of personal health and making choices that lead to well-being, therefore a wide range of activities, services and events are offered to residents.
Each resident is unique, as are his or her health care needs. Nursing services are planned in response to the individual and with the goal of maintaining independence. If requested, the nursing staff will communicate with the family physician and other health care professionals to support the resident in obtaining the services they require.
Healthy choices are made when information is easy to access and understand. Newsletters, brochures, displays and speakers all provide the residents at Longworth with opportunities to learn more about healthful living.
A little encouragement, companionship and laughter can go a long way toward helping us achieve our goals. The Wellness Club is comprised of residents who want to improve their fitness and health through independent and group activities.
Residents can, with a doctor's referral, access the services of an onsite physiotherapist. An assessment will be completed and a program designed, which may include individual therapy or group exercises. The cost of this service is covered by OHIP.
All services available on site by appointment.
In addition to the groups provided through physiotherapy, the recreation department also offers a variety of weekly fitness classes.
Many recognize that spiritual health is as important as our body's health. At Longworth we are pleased to offer weekly multi-denominational church services in the Longworth chapel. Ecumenical care and weekly bible studies are also available.
Wellness is holistic, affecting all aspects of our lives. It is a philosophy that can be lived out in both planned and informal activities. Laughter is very often heard in the common areas, as is music and conversation. Smiles abound. Welcome to Wellness at Longworth.
